Battery Connection Australia is a trading name of Hansen Recycling and Consulting ("we", "us", "our")
Last updated: 16 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect personal information through the Battery Connection website and app. We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. What we collect
Depending on how you use Battery Connection, we may collect:
- Contact details you provide when submitting a collection request or enquiry: name, phone number and/or email address, and suburb.
- Battery details: the type of battery, approximate quantity, and any notes you provide.
- Photos, if you choose to upload or take a photo of a battery to help us identify it or assess a request.
- Email address only, if you use the optional "leave your email" prompt on a free disposal result screen.
- Technical information collected automatically by our hosting and analytics providers (such as general usage data), which does not usually identify you personally.
We do not require you to create an account or log in to use the free battery-identification and drop-off-finder features.
2. How we use your information
We use the information you provide to:
- Respond to collection requests and quote enquiries.
- Identify the correct free or paid disposal pathway for your battery.
- Arrange collection or a referral to a paid recycling partner (see Section 3) where relevant.
- Contact you if you've opted in via the "leave your email" prompt, about Battery Connection updates or to follow up on a query you raised.
- Improve the app and troubleshoot issues.
We do not use your information for unrelated marketing, and we do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Who we share it with
- Service providers: We use third-party providers to run the app, including Supabase (database and file storage) and Resend (email delivery). These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually and technically limited to that purpose.
- Recycling partners: If your enquiry involves a paid collection (for example, bulk quantities, lead-acid car/motorbike batteries, or an EV/solar battery), we may share relevant details with an approved, regulated battery recycler we choose to work with, in order to arrange that service. We will only share what's needed to fulfil the request.
- Free disposal networks: For free household battery disposal, we link you directly to third-party schemes such as B-cycle, Mobile Muster, NTCRS or the ABRI network. We do not share your personal information with these schemes unless you choose to submit your details directly through their own websites — Battery Connection simply provides you with the link.
- We do not share your information with any other third party except where required by law.
4. Where your information is stored
Your information is stored using Supabase, a cloud database and storage provider. Data may be stored or processed on servers located outside Australia. By submitting information through Battery Connection, you consent to this overseas storage for the purposes described in this policy.
5. Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. Submitted data (such as collection requests and email sign-ups) is stored in a manner that does not allow it to be read back out through the public app itself — only we can access it directly.
No method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your enquiry, provide the service requested, or comply with our legal obligations, after which it may be deleted or de-identified.
7. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you, and you may ask us to delete it. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
8. Photos and identification accuracy
Photos submitted for battery identification are used solely to help identify the battery type and provide disposal guidance. Automated photo identification is provided as a guide only — see our Terms of Use for more on the limitations of this feature.
9. Children's privacy
Battery Connection is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Complaints
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or mishandled your personal information, you can lodge a complaint with us by emailing battery@hansenrecycling.com.au with details of your concern. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to respond within a reasonable time, generally within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, or wish to raise the matter independently, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):
